Try your hand at Eight Treasures Rice, also known as 黄金八宝饭(huang jin ba bao fan).

Ingredients

Serves 2 people

  • 4 pcs lupcheong (Chinese dried sausage) Sliced
  • 30g dried oyster
  • 120 g bak kwa (Barbecued jerky)
  • ¼ cup pork floss
  • 2 pcs dried shiitake mushroom
  • 1 cup pumpkin
    Mashed
  • 6 pcs red date
  • 2 bunches bok choy
  • 2 cups rice
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • ½ tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp oil

Did you know? This is a meatier variant on the traditional Chinese festival dish, which is sweeter and made with glutinous rice, as well as eight different kinds of nuts, berries and dried fruit.

Step 1 – Boil the rice, mushrooms, red dates and oyster

  • Heat up 2 cups water in a claypot on low heat.When the water is warm, add rice into the claypot, along with the shiitake mushrooms, red dates and the dried oyster. Cover with the lid and leave to boil.
