Seven-month-old café Cups N Canvas offers art courses while you sip a cup of creamy sweet potato latte
By Cheryl Chia
Being barely a year old, Cups N Canvas seemed fairly packed on the day that we were there. The usual crowd of art school students, expatriates and yuppies filled the airy art-café space. Located along Selegie Road, this is definitely not a place where you’d expect to find a hip café.
Cups N Canvas serves up a small selection of appetisers, pastas, sandwiches and mains. The food is made upon ordering, resulting in a slight wait.
We loved the Blanc Bacon ($15.90) pasta, which is essentially a rich and sinful carbonara, and the Vermilion Prawns ($17.90), a tomato-based pasta with lemon juice resulting in a lovely tangy aftertaste. The PK Duck Sandwich ($9.90) is a sweet Peking Duck-inspired sandwich with bits of tender marinated duck with a thin crepe skin in between ciabatta buns. Thumbs up.
Their Beef N Burger ($10.90) was a bit on the small side but tasted well cooked with a pat of fries on the side. Also try their assorted drinks such as the Sweet Potato Latte ($4.80), a pretty purple concoction with creamy latte art atop, and the Sticky Date Shake ($6.80) if you like your drinks sweet.
They also have all-day breakfasts such as their Eggs Ben-Addict ($14.90) and the Breakfast Canvas ($16.90). Check out their glass counter for an assortment of cakes and pastries as well.
Cups N Canvas also has art courses for children, such as painting, drawing, life drawing and print-making. The stripped down, industrial-looking side of the café is where the workshops are held, and is closed off to the café when classes are on-going.
Simply pay a one-time registration fee of $50 and purchase a package or go for a la carte lessons, whichever you prefer.
