The casual Japanese dining concept from PS.Cafe has just launched a brand-new lunch menu!
Designed especially for the lunch crowd, the menu consists of both old favourites, as well as new dishes, with a focus on standalone dishes as a complement to the lighter sharing plates. One such new item would be the JYPSY Chirashi bowls! Exclusive to the lunchtime menu, these generous bowls make for a hearty meal with their toppings of premium produce on a base of fluffy, steaming rice.
Our favourite was the JYPSY Cali Chirashi ($18++), a colourful bowl that brightened up our table with its toppings of pickled crab, green yuzu pepper, dried sakura shrimp, avocado, cucumber and egg omelette. Savoury, refreshing and crunchy all at once, this was a delight!
The Tempura Snapper Chirashi ($16++) would be a great pick for those who love fish – here, pieces of snapper are lightly battered in tempura before being fried, resulting in delicious, crisp goodness. Pair that with an egg omelette, flying fish roe and green tea tartar; and this makes for a chirashi bowl that will leave you satisfied, yet wanting just one last bite!
Go for the Kara-age Chirashi ($16++) if you’d like chicken instead: while the deep-fried karaage pieces were a tad salty on their own, they paired well with the rice, and mixed together with the egg omelette, shichimi furikake and green yuzu pepper.
Another new dish is the Katsu Sando! Choose between Katsu chicken ($16++) or Iberico pork cutlet ($18++), and your cutlet of choice will be sandwiched between slices of white bread with Japanese bbq miso sauce and grilled shishito. Served with a veritable pile of shredded cabbage, we loved how this glam-ed up sandwich turned something so simple into such a delicious, moreish dish.
Another dish you shouldn’t miss out on is the Tajima Beef Fried Rice ($23++). Rice is fried with kombu butter (seaweed butter), and topped with a generous serving of grilled wagyu beef. Seemingly simple, it tasted anything but! The rice carried a wonderful, savoury fragrance thanks to the kombu butter, and the wagyu beef was melt-in-the-mouth tender.
Pair your meal with any of the drinks from JYPSY’s extensive drinks menu – we had the Yuzu Gin Fizz ($17), a refreshing, Hendricks gin-based cocktail that was delightfully fizzy and fragrant. JYPSY offers a variety of drinks, ranging from cocktails, to wines, and even kombucha!
Of course, what’s a meal without dessert? We had the Yuzu Tofu Cheesecake ($10), a wobbly dome of silky tofu sitting atop a bed of butter biscuit crumbs, drizzled with a citrusy yuzu sauce. Light, sweet and fruity, this was a refreshing take on the normally heavy and hearty cheesecake.
With innovative and delicious dishes, and a beautiful space that allows you to escape from the hustle of work and city life, even if just for a moment; JYPSY is one place you’ll want to head to for your next meet-up with friends!
