5 Restaurants In Galicia, Spain We Dined At And Left Very Much Impressed

Wine, cheese, pork and seafood - what’s there not to love?

But of course, we obliged ourselves to the fabulous gastronomic scene during our trip in Galacia, Spain. With this part of Spain located right next to Atlantic ocean, Galicia abounds with seafood treasures such as octopus, fish and other shellfish jewels. Poultry is another highlight from this northern part of Spain, pork and beef in particular, of which the livestock is all reared in the country. Since the source is right here at home, Galicia's cuisine, aside from being wholesome and diverse, is more affordable as compared to the big cities of Madrid and Barcelona. Here are five restaurants that best exemplify the very best of Galician dining.

3. Casa Marcelo

Who would have thought we’d have brushes with the local condiment of XO sauce in Santiago? Well, we did at Casa Marcelo! Touted as the city number one restaurant, the establishment is a refreshing alternative from the lot of tradition Galician eateries. With one of the few that adopts the open kitchen concept, Casa Marcelo serves up contemporary creations that seek to excite the palate. Some highlights include the lightly seared tuna on a fig, local mussels with lashings of XO sauce that is presented in a dim sum basket, and a whole scorpion fish, deep fried to crackling perfection. Desserts are a hoot too, indicated by the boozy whiskey cake we can’t help but yearn for seconds. Casa Marcelo is located just a short stroll from the main square of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, and is one worth the visit.
