7. Cha Chaan Teng (茶餐厅)

Nestled in the nocturnal ambience of Jalan Besar, Cha Chaan Teng (茶餐厅) seamlessly blends the allure of 1990s Hong Kong cinema with the tantalizing flavors of Hong Kong’s cha chaan tengs.

Inspired by Hong Kong’s dynamic culinary scene, Cha Chaan Teng (茶餐厅)’s menu harmonizes traditional dishes with contemporary twists. Indulge in the Har Cheong Tin Gai (S$13.90++), where frog legs substitute chicken wings, elevated by a house-fermented shrimp paste. The Chun Gyun (S$10.90++) are presented open-faced with a delightful, sweet-spicy kick. Their take on Wu Tau Gou (S$8.90++) transforms them into fries, accompanied by a hae bee hiam salt crafted from prawn heads and dried shrimp.

Some classics remain faithfully traditional, such as the Siu Yuk, Siu Aap, and Char Siu, each embodying the authentic flavors of Hong Kong. The Siu Yuk (S$13.90++) boasts delicate crispy bites with a perfect balance of savory meat and crunchy skin. The Siu Aap (S$16.90++) undergoes a meticulous 48-hour air-drying process before roasting, served with a house-made XO Plum Sauce. The Char Siew (S$13.90++) is mixed overnight with their speciality chili sauce.

Cha Chaan Teng is located at 284 Lavender Street, Singapore 338802.
