Souffle pancakes, beautiful cake creations and a brand-new savoury bistro menu – it’s time to head down to Antoinette!
Known for their gorgeous cakes and delectable pastries, local patisserie Antoinette has recently launched a new menu that includes both sweet and savoury treats. We’re talking souffle pancakes, French dishes like hand-made tagliatelle and beef stew, and of course, Antoinette’s latest collection of cakes!
Pancakes are a perennial delight – do you even know anyone who hates them? – and there’s nothing better than pancakes that have been given a souffle upgrade: fluffy, cloud-like, and offering the goodness of a souffle and the comfort of a pancake, all in one. Score!
Antoinette introduces these soufflé pancakes in their new menu, with the pancakes made from a combination of pancake batter and the base of a soufflé recipe. With both sweet and savoury options, there’s no reason why you can’t have pancakes for both your main and dessert!
A wonderful dessert option would be the Trés Berries ($16++), where the thick pancake-clouds are topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries, and a delightful vanilla crème Chantilly that very nearly stole the show. For an added touch of sweetness, drizzle your pancakes with the accompanying honey maple syrup for the ultimate breakfast dessert.
We fell in love with the Ondeh Ondeh ($16++), Chef Pang’s tribute to the beloved local kueh. Covered in lashings of pandan-flavoured custard, gula melaka syrup and generous sprinkles of coconut flakes, we felt like we were taking mouthfuls of a kueh-flavoured cloud.
If you’re hankering for both pancakes and a meal, go for the savoury pancake options! We enjoyed the Forestiere ($16++), where the stack of pancakes comes served with an aromatic and creamy mushroom sauce, and an omelette with a small garden salad on the side. More of a brunch person? Go for the Benedict ($18++), which also comes with an omelette but is paired with slices of serrano ham and Hollandaise sauce.
What’s a visit to Antoinette without gazing in wonder upon their beautiful cake creations – and ordering a few to try? Antoinette’s latest collection of five cakes offers a fusion of flavours in aesthetic ways that will please both your eyes and stomach.
Chocolate-lovers would enjoy the Bananier ($9/$42.50/$85), a twist on the classic pairing of bananas and chocolate. Here, dark chocolate and caramelized bananas are melded together in a cake that consist of smooth dark chocolate mousse, rich chocolate genoise, and crunchy milk chocolate feuilletine. Layered within are light caramel parfait and pieces of banana flambéd with rum – a decadent and addictive treat indeed.
It seems like everyone has fallen prey to the lure of bubble tea – even Chef Pang! We have too, and indeed, if you enjoy your boba, or are a tea-lover in general, we’re sure you would love the Earl Grey Bubble Tea ($9/$42.50/$85). A wonderfully light Earl Grey-perfumed ogura cake is covered with a thick layer of salted cream cheese Chantilly, and topped with fresh mango cubes and tapioca pearls that have been steeped in aromatic Okinawa black sugar syrup.
For all the dreamers out there, Fluffy ($13/$49/$98) is for you: a gorgeous, Instagram-worthy creation inspired by clouds. Vanilla-scented white chocolate mousse engulfs a filling of kirsch-soaked almond genoise, strawberry crémeux and a thin layer of passion fruit lemon jelly – you’ll find a burst of flavour in every mouthful. And just like someone with a head full of dreams, Fluffy’s seemingly mild exterior belies its flavour-filled layers!
Meanwhile, Kyoto ($9/$42.50/$85) like its name suggests, is a homage to hojicha, which was first invented in Kyoto, Japan. Here, hojicha mousse is layered over a thin layer of orange confit, before being topped with a soft finger sponge made with Okinawa black sugar, black sugar crème Chantilly and a sleek layer of glaze. Full of hojicha’s uniquely toasted, nutty flavours; this is an elegant treat perfect for tea-time.
Red velvet and cheesecake are both classics, and the Velvet Rouge ($9/$42.50/$85) is a red velvet cheesecake that promises elegance, decadence, and no regrets. Red velvet cheesecake is layered upon chocolate fudge walnut cake, and topped with gorgeous swirls of salted caramel crème Chantilly, and generous sprinkles of chocolate crumble.
Besides sweet treats, Antoinette has also launched a new all-day savoury menu, offering comforting dishes to have alongside your (pan)cakes.
We recommend the Wagyu Beef Cheek Tagliatelle ($28++) served with truffle foam; a dish of tender, flavourful chunks of wagyu accompanying delightful al dente strands of hand-made tagliatelle.
Another delectable dish to try is the French Chicken and Sausage Casserole ($22++), a classic deep-pan French dish of braised chicken and Toulouse sausages cooked together in a tomato-based stew with wine and cannellini beans – hearty, comforting, and good to the last spoonful.
Those craving meat would enjoy the Crispy Pork Belly Confit ($28++), a seasonal special of pork belly that’s been cured and confit in duck fat for a day, before being painstakingly pressed to shape and fried over low heat for that deliciously crisp skin. Paired with braised savoy cabbage, pomme puree, apple puree and mustard sauce; this carefully-crafted dish is melt-in-your-mouth tender.
Other dishes to try would be the Schiacciata ($18++), a traditional Tuscan flatbread that is brimming with melted camembert, pecorino and aromatic bits of truffle; served with honey and a sunny side-up on the side. Or go for the hearty Burgundy Beef Stew ($16++), cooked with red wine and vegetables and left to simmer for hours on the stove for rich flavours and tender meat; and the Pan Fried Foie Gras ($24++) served with freshly baked walnut and raisin country bread and peach chutney.
Be it sweet or savoury, breakfast or a tea-time treat, there’s something for your every craving with Antoinette’s new menu.
