In a recent report by the Passport Index, the Singapore passport came up top in the rankings as one of the most powerful passports in the world. It ties with Sweden, and comes behind only Germany.
The ranking was determined by each passport’s visa-free score, which is the number of countries for which no visa is required to enter. Our little red book grants us visa-free entry into 156 cities and countries; just one point behind Germany’s 157.
Singapore is the only Asian immigration document to emerge in the top three spots, and jumped from fifth place in the same ranking system for the past three years. The third placing is held by eight countries tied at 155: Denmark, Finland, Spain, France, Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
The next Asian country to make the rank is Japan in fourth place with a score of 154. Malaysia ranks in fifth place with 153 points.
