If you’ve already embarked on the Golden Route, also known as the old Tōkaidō road from Tokyo to Kyoto, you might want to consider exploring Ehime the next time you visit Japan.

While less bustling than its counterparts, the prefecture, which literally means “lovely princess” in Japanese, is rich with history, culture, and the traditional spirit of hospitality. Plus, its warm and mild climate makes it a breeze to travel anytime of the year.

1. Pamper yourself at Dogo Hot Spring

Rumoured to be the hot spring that inspired the bath houses in anime Spirited Away, Dogo is also Japan’s oldest hot spring with more than 3,000 years of history. The area is clustered with a number of inns and hotels, bearing a charming atmosphere fitting of a hot spring resort.

Soak away your worries at the various hot springs and hot foot baths before visiting the Dogo Shopping Arcade to check out the souvenir shops. Other attractions include the Botchan Karakuri Clock and Botchan Train.
