Forget wine, here’s your chance to be a true oyster connoisseur.
Greenwood Fish Market is flying in over 20 varieties of oysters for your tasting pleasure. Each oyster has its own unique characteristics due to the cultivation method used and water conditions of the location. Trust us when we say that you will be able to tell the difference.
Leave it to the Chef and order a tasting platter at $99 which comes with 7 types of oysters (2 each) or try your hand at ordering your own oyster bucket. If it’s the second option you’re going for, here are our top 5 picks you can’t go wrong with.
1. New Zealand Pacific Rock ($4)
One of the most underrated oysters that suit almost any palette. This creamy oyster is not too briny, delicate and sweet.
2. Fine De Claire No. 3 ($5)
This famous oyster comes from the largest oyster-producing region in the world, Marenne-Oleron. The oysters are light and salty like a refreshing breeze from the ocean.
3. Speciales Utah Beach ($7)
This meaty oyster was one of the sweetest we had with a mild briny taste that becomes more acidic as you chew.
4. Gillardeau No. 3 ($8)
The Gillardeau No. 3 is an explosion of flavours in you mouth. Not only is it your usual sweet and salty mix, it’s also slightly spicy and nutty too!
5. Belon “OOO”
You’ll know you’ve reached true oyster masterdom if you enjoy the taste of the Belon “OOO”. This huge oyster is aptly described as “intense, overwhelming and unforgettable”. We hated the strong metallic aftertaste but still think it’s worth ordering to placate your curiousity.
The World Oyster Festival will last from Jul 1 to 31 as it’s the prime period for harvesting most of the special varieties of oysters. The festival will also be taking place at both outlets, Greenwood Avenue and Quayside Isle @ Sentosa Cove.
