Back for its sixth zombie-killing season, popular TV series “The Walking Dead” isn’t slowing down — in fact, its stars are still reeling from its most emotional season yet
Hold on to your couch; things are about to get crazier in the new season of “The Walking Dead”.
This post-apocalyptic zombie series has swept the world over (not unlike the epidemic it portrays) and is soon returning for its sixth season. If you had thought that the last five seasons were dark and intense, this new one will knock the wind out of you — and the cast will testify to that.
EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER
“The Walking Dead” fans would be all too familiar with the series’ emphasis on human relationships and emotions, and how easy they are to break.
For the uninitiated, the show follows a ragtag crew of survivors led by former police officer Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) battling zombies to survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland. In their search for a safe haven, or fort, they run into allies, enemies, traitors and various strange characters hardened by desperation.
Season 6 takes this situation to new levels, now that the survivors have loved, lost and been tested beyond their limits.
Steven Yuen, who plays Glenn, told entertainment website ew.com, “To see where we’ve evolved to is awesome… I think you’re going to see some deeply-emotional character story.”
Lauren Cohen, who returns as Glenn’s partner, Maggie, concurred. She shared that the characters that were once stable and reliable are now “crumbling”.
Threats, both external and internal, will further terrorise the group. Unable to contain his excitement, Steven enthused that audiences will be shocked by “some crazy-a** sh**”.
Lauren added, “We have the most suffocating beginning to the season that I’ve experienced yet… It’s going to be pretty scary.”
OLD FAVOURITES & NEWCOMERS
Other returning regulars include Norman Reedus as Daryl, Chandler Riggs as Carl, Danai Gurira as Michonne and Melissa McBride as Carol.
According to the creator of the original “The Walking Dead” comic, Robert Kirkman, diehard fans are going to love Season 6 because “very cool, very beloved parts of the comic series” will be expanded in exciting ways. For instance, you can look forward to the return of the tragic yet brave Morgan Jones (played by Lennie James), the first survivor who Rick encounters in the series.
Previously, Morgan lost his wife and child and was discovered unhinged (in Season 3). Last season, he was rediscovered and eventually recovered. But how accepting will the group be to Morgan, and vice-versa?
That’s just one storyline I can’t wait to see unfold. Get ready to be drawn into other dark developments that this new season brings.
