If The Little Mermaid was a Korean series, this is probably what it’d look like. On 17 Nov, K-drama king Lee Min Ho (“The Heirs”, Bounty Hunters) and queen Gianna Jun Ji Hyun (“My Love From The Star”) are making their TV comebacks in a dramedy of nautical proportions.

Airing every Thursday and Friday at 8.10pm on One, “Legend of the Blue Sea” takes a cue from the Korean tale of a fisherman who catches and releases a beautiful mermaid – and is almost reminiscent of the Hans Christian Andersen classic.
In the present day, genius conman Heo Joon Jae (Lee) is adept at playing tricks, bluffing and twisting words to suit his goals. Shim Chung (Jun) is the world’s last mermaid, who has lived for centuries in search of the man who had saved her in the past. When the two cross paths, hilarity ensues as Shim Chung attempts to adjust to life on land.

This 20-episode series marks Lee’s return to the small screen after three years, and it is the first drama for new mum Jun, who gave birth to a baby boy earlier in February. “Legend of the Blue Sea” is helmed by renowned writer Park Ji Eun (“My Love from the Star”) and acclaimed director Jin Hyuk (“The Master’s Sun”, “City Hunter”).
