Let’s Talk About Sex At Asia’s First Sexual Wellness Festival Held In Singapore

The event will hold conversation topics such as sex-ed for children and the makeup of the female orgasm

It’s fine time that we break the walls of Asia’s conservative culture and get frank with sex, pleasure, relationships and everything in between.

And we don’t mean in a manner of poor taste.

Prided as Asia’s first sexual wellness festival, Spark Fest presents a safe and non-judgemental platform for large-format discussions and activities that revolve around the aforementioned ‘taboo’ topics.

“In my practice as a sex and relationship counsellor, there have been many instances of individuals, couples and even parents with questions about sexual wellness. However, they often do not know who to turn to due to the taboo of talking about sex in Asia,” shared Erin Chen, Founder of SPARK Fest Asia. “At Spark Fest, we are taking a balanced and holistic approach towards providing a safe environment for all genders to ask questions, have conversations about sex, and foster the growth for the society and industry in a forward manner.”

So how upfront are these conversations going to be?

Gleaning from the event’s promotional five-part video series, featuring 12 people candidly discussing things like sex advice and the future of sex, conversations can be expected to be entirely unfiltered.

#BreakTheWall: Part 1 – Sex: Best & Worst Advice

With that saying, these passionate discussions about sex won’t be just a tennis court of self-indulgent opinions.

Instead, Spark Fest has invited over 20 professionals to lead a series of expert panel discussions, called Konversations. Hailing from wellness, sextech and media industries, some speakers include Sanderijn Van Der Doef, Sexologist & Youth Sex Ed Expert, Anita Kapoor, Host, Activist and Author, Mattias Hulting, Founder of Smile Makers and Dr. Julinda Lee, Gynaecologist.

Talking points will center around prevailing situations such as the #MeToo movement and dealing with sexual harassment, alongside light-hearted, yet very enlightening subjects such as “Breaking Down the Mystery of Female Orgasms”, “Do You Think You’re Man Enough?” and “Dos and Don’ts when talking about sex with your children”.

Once you had your fill of juicy conversations, Spark Fest will also have a display of interactive art installations for you to tinker with. These include the STRIP Yoniscape – a visual representation of women sounding off on their insecurities, alongside Marcos Alberti’s photography works depicting women before, during and after they climax through self-pleasure.

Spark Fest will take place on 19 May from 11am to 7pm at The Hive. Tickets are at $35.
