1. Singapore Heritage Festival 2017
When: Until 14 May
The annual Singapore Heritage Festival (SHF) this year takes visitors through the lesser-known stories about Singaporeans’ shared spaces.
Upcoming festival highlights include exploring the nooks and crannies of iconic areas such as the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, Bukit Pasoh and Little India.
On 28 Apr – 1 May and 5–7 May, SHF Takes Over! will give participants the rare opportunity to explore the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, where local productions are produced. Discover lesser-known aspects of broadcasting with activities, like a unique theatre show featuring characters and stories from beloved shows and guided tours by celebrities.
On 10 May, with the whole Bukit Pasoh street closed to traffic, uncover the stories and memories behind the colourful facades of the shophouses, which will open their doors for guided tours, craft activities and workshops. Expect music, film and other cultural performances put up by the Chinatown clans and associations.
Whet your appetite on 12 and 13 May, when the Asian Civilisations Museum revives the memories of hawker dining by the river. SHF @ Singapore River will feature hawkers serving some of Singaporeans’ favourite hawker food, alongside exhibitions, outdoor film screenings and performances.
Then, on 13 and 14 May, go on a multi-sensory journey through Little India, which has been splashed with colourful street art installations; taken over by performances by dance, music, theatre and puppetry groups; and dotted with food trails led by Singapore celebrity chefs. The tour is held in conjunction with the Indian Heritage Centre’s second anniversary celebrations.
