According to the Ministry of Manpower, 2017 will bring us seven long weekends - where a public holiday (PH) falls on a Friday or Monday. However, by taking just six days of leave, you can enjoy three more long weekends, stretching your total vacation time to a whopping 36 days.

We show you how to do just that, and where you should consider travelling to during each period.

National Day: 9 Aug, Wed

Take leave on: 10-11 Aug, Thu-Fri

The second block of off-days to splurge on, this period will grant you another five-day work-week off. In 2016, Bangkok, Thailand, proved to be a popular destination with Singaporeans for National Day travel, reported Skyscanner. In fact, the city has remained the most-searched destination by Singapore travellers for five consecutive years.

However, if 2017 seems like a good year to go against the grain, you may want to take this time to explore Hua Hin, a lesser-known seaside retreat in Thailand filled with serene beaches, swanky hotels and local seafood shacks. Alternatively, Phuket registers as the cheapest Thai destination to visit (from $94 on Skyscanner) in August.
