How to maximise your long weekends next year and the best times to book your flights

According to the Ministry of Manpower, 2017 will bring us seven long weekends - where a public holiday (PH) falls on a Friday or Monday. However, by taking just six days of leave, you can enjoy three more long weekends, stretching your total vacation time to a whopping 36 days.
We show you how to do just that, and where you should consider travelling to during each period.

Unless you have any leave left, take this time to unwind with a smaller vacation to escape the jingles, perhaps to a sunnier spot like Davao, Philippines. Search engine Kayak reported that Manila, Philippines, ranked second in its most-searched year-end destinations of 2016, so outlying areas would be your best bet for scoring cheap flight and hotel deals.
For those lucky enough to spare more off-days, Sapporo, Japan and Seoul ranked top on Kayak as this festive season’s trending destinations. Take this as inspiration to hit up some of the brilliant Christmas markets closer to home, if you’re not already planning to head further for a full-fledged winter wonderland.
