Similar to Tokushima’s Awa odori is the Yosakoi Festival, which originated from Kochi Prefecture, located on the island of Shikoku. The festival started in 1954 following the creation of the official Yosakoi Naruko Dance, where performers move to an upbeat tempo while carrying a pair of naruko, a type of clappers that make a ‘click-clack’ sound.
