5. Nebuta Matsuri
Held annually in Aomori in early August, Nebuta Matsuri feature floats constructed with painted washi paper over a wire frame, some of which can take an entire year to design and construct. The main highlight is the daily parade of enormous lantern floats, flanked by large taiko drums, musicians and dancers.
