What comes to mind when you think of Hokkaido? Picturesque snowy landscapes perhaps? Or the abundance of natural hot springs?
As a matter of fact, Hokkaido's Autumn season paints a picture entirely different from the winter wonderland we're all so familiar with. Here are some of the beautiful views we witnessed while embarking on the paths less trodden:
3. Toyoni Lake
Hidden in the mountainous southeast end of Hokkaido lies a natural heart-shaped freshwater lake. Yes, a literal heart-shaped lake that was formed by Mother Nature. A four-hour car’s ride from Sapporo is required to reach the destination, but trust us when we say that the view is worth every mileage. Come during fall when the surrounding foliage turns a gorgeous orange-red shade that truly complements the crystal blues of Toyoni Lake.
Helicopter rides typically happen between September 30 and 22 October every year, from 9am in the morning to 2pm in the afternoon.
Ride fees are as follows:
- Toyoni Lake itinerary (around 8 minutes) : Adult 13000Yen (12 years and above), Children 10000Yen
- Toyoni Lake & Erimo Cape Itinerary (around 20 minutes) : Adult 33000 Yen (12 years and above), Children 30000Yen
Enquiries:
- 0570-000-644
- 080-4105-5266 (dedicated hotline between September 30 to October 22)
Gentle reminder: Each helicopter ride seats 4 people. The seat beside the driver offers the best view of the lake.
