KLM introduces a new mobile booking platform and boarding procedure to bring greater ease

As a traveller, you would most probably have experienced that the checking in and boarding procedure before a flight can be a long and tedious process. Booking a flight can also be a drag.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines recently launched two new innovations to speed up the booking and boarding processes, giving flyers greater ease and speed of process.

New Mobile Booking

Earlier this month, KLM launched its new central mobile campaign: Book Mobile, Stay Mobile!

Through the mobile site and application, passengers can book their flights hassle-free whenever they want, wherever they are.
To book, passengers simply need to go to KLM.sg or launch the KLM mobile app.

Free External Battery

From Dec 3 to 24, all customers who book via KLM’s mobile application or mobile site will receive a free external battery.
Your home address must be entered via the link in the confirmation E-mail, and KLM will deliver the battery – free!

Innovative Procedure

KLM has also introduced a new boarding procedure that will apply on three European flights a day out of Amsterdam airport, Schiphol.

Research has confirmed that passengers find existing procedures inefficient.

Before passengers can take their seat, they often have to queue at the gate and then have to wait for passengers blocking the aisle or window seat. This often leads to frustration, and even delays.

KLM is the first airline to come up with a solution, ensuring faster and more comfortable boarding.

The New Process

With the new process, passengers will get a boarding number at the gate. This number is based on their seat in the aircraft. When boarding begins, the numbers are displayed in sequence.

The order in which the numbers are displayed ensures that passengers with a window seat board first, starting at the rear of the aircraft.

They are followed by passengers seated in the midsection of the aircraft, after which the passengers with aisle seats.

This ensures that passengers can wait their turn in the comfort of the lounge, instead of waiting in line, or having to step over other passengers. As always, disabled passengers and parents with babies will be allowed to board first.

Priority Boarding

SkyPriority passengers board next. At present, the new procedure will apply on three flights a day, to Berlin, Budapest and Helsinki.

KLM intends to expand this boarding procedure to other European and intercontinental flights in the course of the coming year.
