This modern city used to be one of the largest castle towns in Japan and you’ll see plenty of traditional elements still preserved till this day.

For example, the Kanazawa Castle stands tall and proud in the centre of the city. Though constructed more than 400 years ago, its large, manicured grounds attract avid runners and picnicking families alike.

Just metres away, you can visit the Kenrouken Garden, one of the three famous gardens in Japan, created and maintained by a succession of lords.
