Gold Coast: What To Do & Where To Stay For A Memorable Trip

Make the most memories within the 70km pristine coastline

Before we headed for the Gold Coast, we thought of the sunny region as a good one- or two-days trip East while visiting the major cities like Melbourne and Sydney. But our five-day stay showed us that the Gold Coast abounds in gorgeous beaches, fun activities and exquisite eats, definitely not enough for just one or two days! We've put together the most unique parts of our experience, marked out by how each activity suits certain types of travel personalities, to help you get the most out of the huge and diverse Gold Coast. Check out our highlights video at the end for a better look at all the fun we had!

For the love of history, with a side of alcohol

We loved learning about the unique history and culture of the Gold Coast, especially if we get to have a cool drink in hand while doing so! Granddad Jacks Craft Distillery is a hit among the local gin and whisky lovers. Opened by David Ridden and his son Luke, it’s only the first craft gin and whisky distillery and taproom in the region. Family is a big part of the business, as the father-and-son duo also recreate age-old family recipes well-loved by David’s grandfather, the eponymous Granddad Jack. Besides the delicious drinks, the store’s interior also stood out to us – all the interior materials and furniture are second-hand until today, to honour Granddad Jack, who did not believe in buying things brand new.
