Zhuang Minority Village
Don’t miss out on experiencing the culture of the largest of all the 55 ethnic groups in China, the Zhuang ethnic group, at Pingan Zhuang Village. There, the Zhuang people make their own rice wine using fermented glutinous rice, and wear intricate traditional costumes.
Women wear a blue and black jacket with bright furbelow (flounce or ruffle), with a delicately-embroidered apron fastened at the waist; men don a black coat with cloth-wrapped buttons.
Birds of a Feather
As the night falls, watch ossifrages, or ospreys (large hawks with beautiful feathers) stand in an orderly manner, then simultaneously dive into the water to search for fish.
These birds of prey are employed by the local fishermen, and at times even haul a large fish back into the boat together.
Impressions: Liu Shan Jie
Impressions: Liu Shan Jie is named after the singing legend from the Zhuang ethnic group. Over 600 people are involved in this play, with most being fishermen from the five villages along the river. The rest are ingénues from other ethnic minorities.
The soaring notes of their untrained voices and spontaneous dancing crest in a beautiful end to the night.
