You don’t have to be Santa Claus to ride a reindeer sleigh – here’s how!
Before you know it, it’s already the end of the year – and that means it’s time to plan for your Christmas getaway.
Escape from the sun and have yourself a white Christmas in Norway, the land of beautiful mountain peaks and friendly reindeer. Norway is one of the most popular places to cosy up in a warm sled and be led across the white plateaus.
It may not be the stuff of legends, but it certainly is a legendary experience for the entire family.
A Whole New World
Sledding through the snow is a magical ride in its own right. Glide past the enchanting forests and snowy plains of Norway as you snuggle beneath the warm blankets and quilts in the sleigh.
As city folks, we would be astounded at the complete, beautiful silence that envelopes the journey, punctuated only by the sliding of the sled against the powdery snow ground.
If you travel here between November and March, consider taking the evening trip – you will be treated to the magnificent and unparalleled view of the Northern Lights on your journey.
Live like the Sami People
The Sami culture is native to Northern Scandinavia – which includes Norway – and has been developing there for some 11,000 years. The Sami life is closely intertwined with nature, and the people live in tents and huts alongside reindeer. Simply imagine Kristoff and his reindeer from the movie Frozen.
Some sleigh trips take visitors through the daily life of the Sami people. Whether trying your hand at lasso-throwing or warming up over a hot traditional Norwegian meal, you can get closer to nature and experience the origins of reindeer sleighing.
If your trip is extended overnight, you can even set up a tent and camp under the shimmering stars. Just imagine, what bliss!
So, even if celebrating Christmas isn’t your idea of a getaway, spending the end of 2014 in these pure, untouched lands is a great way to look forward to the New Year.
