Rare sightings: Raichu, Lickitung, Electabuzz, Machoke and Pikachu (‘real’ and virtual)
While “rare” in Singapore may mean the coy Pikachu or the elusive Snorlax, those spotted in Japan reach an entirely different calibre. This is understandable, given that Japan is the motherland of the original Pokemon series.
But where exactly are these creatures hiding? One recommended area is Yumenoshima, or Dream Island Park, just outside the Tokyo city centre.
It may have been originally built as a landfill, but it’s now a recreational park where the only things being dumped are oodles of rare Pokemon, such as Graveler (evolution of Geodude), Diglett and Growlithe.

The area is devoid of Pokestops, however, so stock up on supplies before heading there. Another top spot in Tokyo is Odaiba Island, where Pokemon such as Raichu, Wartortle and Vulpix have been caught.
Longtime Pokemon fans may also be familiar with the massive Pikachu parade that graces Yokohama every year; this year’s festival was held in August. The city is also home to a Pokemon Centre, where fans can get ahold of limited-edition merchandise, plush toys and other accessories.
While you’re in Yokohama, take some time to visit Yamashita Park and Yokohama Koen, where Electabuzz, Diglett and Onix have been spotted.
