Gone are the days when cruises were just holidays on a ship where passengers simply gambled, ate and suntanned their vacation away. Now, cruiseliners are upping the ante with interesting activities you wouldn’t expect to find on a vessel.

4. A cosplay festival
For the second time this year, Royal Caribbean invited avid cosplay artists and fans to sail on a three-day cosplay festival out at sea. The Cosfest Sea, which was held in February this year, shipped festival-goers from Singapore to Penang and entertained them with a full programme of cosplay entertainment and activities such as a Costume Museum, a Cosplay Parade and the Asia Cosplay Meet Championship.
