Think of Taiwan and many will launch into daydreams about Taipei’s buzzing night markets and colourful ever-changing city corners. But while the capital city is a familiar haunt for Singaporeans young and old, hipster habitats are blossoming in Taiwan’s smaller urban enclaves.

6. Dashu Old Railway Sky Bridge, Kaohsiung

Stretching 1,526m, the Dashu Old Railway has been standing strong since 1913, when it was crowned the longest bridge in Asia. Although it was used as a military track during World War II, this railway and its immediate area was spared from destruction as the land here was heavily populated with schools and hospitals.

Today, as trains rattle down the sturdier concrete railway that runs beside it, the vintage Sky Bridge is still open to hobbyist photographers, couples going on romantic walks and any other curious visitors. The entire site has been rejuvenated as a 120ha-large Wetland Park.

Dashu Old Railway Wetland Park, No 109, Zhuliao Road, Dashu District, Kaohsiung City, 840 Taiwan.
