4. Karimunjawa Island, Indonesia

The largest island of the Karimunjawa Archipelago in the Java Sea, Karimunjawa (or Karimun Island) is the pride of Java, Indonesia. Locals proudly recommend this place as one of their best offerings, thanks to its pristine waters, unspoilt beaches and rich wildlife.

Sea turtles inhabit the waters here, while deer and pangolin can be spotted on land. From the highest point in Karimunjawa, you can take in the views of the entire archipelago, which has also been designated as a national marine park.

Karimunjawa has a nearby twin, Kemujan Island, and smaller neighbours such as Menjangan Besar and Menjangan Kecil Islands. It’s accessible by chartered plane from Surabaya to Dewandaru Airport in Kemujan Island, or by ferry from Kartini Port in Jepara, Central Java.
