We resume our popular Home Inspirations segment with more creative ideas for the home from Lookbox Living
A home with a unique character is hard to come by in this day and age of off-the-shelf designs.
That said, this flat by De Style Interior is brimming with individuality – a home that is a unique mix of rusticity and industrialism.
Cosy Up
The living room is the sum of its parts, many of which come in the form of bold textures. The feature wall behind the TV console is sheathed with a laminate that bears the appearance of grey, petrified wood.
Raw timber and white bricks also add to the rustic vibe of the space. Overhead, faux timber rafters lower the perceived height of the ceiling for a more intimate feel.
Give and Take
The compact size of the flat did not stop the designers from taking risks. Right behind the dining area is a tumble of storage boxes that provides a place to hide knick-knacks but also serves as an accent piece in the home. The dining area, in contrast, is kept simple.
To compensate for the narrow dining area, a window that looks into the kitchen was created. The window also extends the cooking area beyond the confines of its four walls.
Pare It Down
Things make a change for the more subdued in the master bedroom. Here, wallpaper that looks like off-form concrete blocks encloses the room.
Its dove-grey colour sets the tone for a restful evening. Underfoot, timber flooring serves as a warm counterpoint to the wallpaper.
Light the Way
De Style Interior proves that corridors don’t have to be boring. In the passageway to the bedrooms, ribbons of wires and bulbs underline a casual, industrial feel.
Affordable and easy to install, such lighting also doubles as design accents in the home.
