The shoes are available for purchase now

We’ve seen a few fashion partnerships lately that made us go, “Huh. Those are two brands we never thought would work together to release a collection.” But Givenchy and Onitsuka Tiger just took “unexpected collaboration” to a whole new level.

And the two brands keeping it a secret until Givenchy drops the bomb on the runway of Pitti Uomo 2019 is just a part of why the announcement comes as such a surprise.

This Givenchy x Onitsuka Tiger collaboration is the first time ever that Onitsuka Tiger is teaming up with a luxury fashion house. It’s a great milestone to mark the Japanese shoe brand’s 70th anniversary. On the other end, it is also a first for Givenchy to form a global partnership with an outside sneaker manufacturer.

Then, there’s the almost immediate release of the sneakers the next day after its runway debut on 12 June. Yup, you can now purchase the Givenchy x Onitsuka Tiger shoes! They are available at the Givenchy Paragon store, the Onitsuka Tiger flagship store and online.

With Onitsuka Tiger turning 70 this year, it’s fitting that this collaboration takes on one of the brand’s most iconic shoe style – the “Nippon Made” Mexico 66. There are two fresh new reinterpretations of the style in sleek white and black colourways. An all-white iteration features the signature Onitsuka Tiger stripe lines in pretty chrome slapped across the outer-facing side, opposite a perforated “GIVENCHY” lettering on the inner side. The black version does not come with the Givenchy lettering, but the French luxury house adds its collaborative touch by accentuating the Onitsuka Tiger stripes with details in its signature red and white.

We also love how the back tab on both designs announce the partnership with the double-logo inscription “Givenchy Tiger.”

While the collaboration may have been a surprise to many of us, it seems natural and inevitable for Givenchy Artistic
Director Clare Waight Keller, who has been a big fan of Onitsuka Tiger for a long time and personally wears the Mexico 66 shoes out and about. The two monochromatic reiterations fit perfectly with the general vision of her menswear show that she debuted on the Pitti Uomo runway.

Both Givenchy x Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 GDX shoes are available for men and women, and are retailing at $850 each. They come in specially designed packaging that fans of both brands might want to collect.
