Celebrity hairstylist Gunhee and his team in Singapore.
Imagine having your hair cut by the same hairstylist whose nifty hands have styled the likes of Korean celebrities Super Junior, 4 Minute, JYJ and more.
Bragging rights for life.
With the opening of Korean salon Bella K-Beauty House at Nassim Road, this doesn’t have to be a dream.
Helmed by celebrity hairstylist Gunhee (who by the way, has 443k followers on Instagram so is a mini-celeb in his own right), the salon will offer fashion forward haircuts alongside services like Korean Digital Perm and Korean Magic, a rebonding treatment that gives a natural, sleek yet curled-in finish.
We check in with the talented hairstylist and got him to share the top hair trends as well as his favourite Korean celebrity.
The suave and talented Gunhee.
1. What are the top Korean hair trends for ladies?
There’s the bob cut, medium length and non-layered hair (like that of Song Hye Kyo’s in the drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’), as well as see-through bangs.
2.What are the top Korean hair trends for men?
Semi two-block cut, pomade perm and natural brown coloured hair.
3.Walk us through a day in your life as a celebrity hairstylist.
I usually wake up at 7am and start off my day by exercising before breakfast. I start by preparing to go to work at around 10am. After I reach Bella K-Beauty House, I prepare for the salon’s opening.
During the day I go around tending to work, and at night, I meet up with friends for dinner and the occasional drink.
Have your hair styled or manicure did at the luxurious yet cosy Bella K-Beauty Salon.
4. Could you share 3 tips on maintaining one’s hairstyle in Singapore’s humid weather?
People tend to only take care of the hair on the surface, but it is important to care for one’s scalp with regular treatment. If the scalp is healthy, the hair that grows out will be healthy too.
In addition, I hope more people will learn to understand their own hair better, so that they are able to style their hair in a way they love.
In hot and humid Singapore, ladies who are looking to perm their hair should always go for a stronger perm in order to get the result they actually want, and for the hairstyle to last longer.
It’s good to apply hair essence or curling cream to maintain the curls, as they help form a protective layer to block UV rays, just like how sunscreen works for the face.
However, it is important to note that while applying hair products are essential, one should not over-apply as there might have adverse effects.
Song Hye Kyo’s breezy hairdo in Descendants of the Sun.
5. Which Korean hair trends do you think would take off well in Singapore? And why?
Right now, I would have to say that Song Hye Kyo’s style from the hit drama “Descendants of the Sun”. She is receiving a lot of love for it.
Gunhee considers Super Junior’s Kim Heechul his best friend.
6. You’ve worked with plenty of Korean celebrities. Whose hair do you love working with the most, and why?
I would have to say that it’s Super Junior’s Kim Heechul (laughs). While some people might think that working with their best friend is a hard thing, for me, it’s more fun than difficult. I would still choose him as the best celebrity to work with.
7. If you could style anyone’s hair in the world, who would it be and why?
There is no specific person I would want to work with but I would definitely like to work with world-class celebrities as a representative of Asia (not just Korea) to promote Asian beauty.
Services at Bella K-Beauty House start from $148 for a cut, wash and blowdry, and from $338 for a natural perm.
