5 Minutes With Paula Malai Ali Of FOX Sports

Getting into the heat of the F1 action, fitness talk and guilty pleasures

Veteran sports host, fitness lover and mom — Paula Malai Ali joins the ranks of many feisty superwomen out there, who have no qualms about acing career and family.

As a mainstay on FOX Sports’ coverage of the Formula One, she anchors each pre and post-race show during the season as well as the review shows on Race Day and Chequered Flag with former professional drivers Alex Yong and Matthew Marsh.

This year, be sure to keep abreast of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix happening on 16 to 18 Sep, exclusively on the FOX Sports Network.

Meanwhile, we caught her in time for a quick catch up:

Hi Paula, what have you been busy with?

I’ve just gotten back from India for the Olympics coverage. An intense three weeks of work! I have come back right into the Formula One Season with the FOX Sports Network and jumped right back into the fray.

You’re a mom, TV presenter and fitness lover. That’s as superwoman as it can get. Tell us, how do you balance work, family and me time?

Admittedly, the balance is sometimes out of whack and I feel like I’m not spending enough time with my son, but with the storm also comes the calm.

I’m actually a very organised person so I think my time management is quite good.  And I live and breathe by my old school diary! Everything is written down and highlighted!

Tell us more about your fitness regime. How often do you work out and where at?

I work out four times a week. After taking my son to school, I’ll do a 30 minute jog, followed by HIIT workouts and yoga on top of the run.

I’m not a fan of spending hours in the gym — I just want to workout efficiently. I’m literally in to do the work and out to start my day.

What’s one fitness advice you’ll give to our readers and why?

Be realistic with what you know you can maintain. A 20 minute YouTube workout really works for me. I have no reason not to find 20 minutes in my day, and that has become my ritual and routine.

What’s your guilty pleasure and why?

I love crisps and Nasi Lemak!  Salty and savoury stuff really is my comfort food, and what is more comforting than a plate of Nasi Lemak? It also shows my heritage: English mother and having been raised in Asia and that shows in my cravings!

What’s one thing people don’t know about your job as presenter for Fox Sports?

That I come in maybe one hour before the rest of my F1 team because I’m very particular in my show prep.
