When you’re trying out yoga for the first time, there’s plenty to consider. The last thing you want is to be in a class so packed, you find yourself elbowing a fellow student, or worse, looking around in bewilderment as everyone transits seamlessly from crow to headstand.

To help you ease into your practice, here are four beginner-friendly boutique yoga studios we love. They offer small class sizes, cosy environments and most importantly, patient teachers so that you can concentrate on reaping the health benefits of yoga.

Yoga Bar: Well Balanced Classes

Here’s what Happy Hour at Yoga Bar looks like: Flushed cheeks, sweaty limbs and a sense of well-being. Located in the heart of Orchard, the yoga studio makes a convenient option for anyone looking to squeeze in a quick workout after office hours or in between shopping.

With a maximum class size of 15 people, it almost feels like you’re enjoying a private session. Of the classes offered, my favourite has to be the Hastha — a well-balanced yoga class combining Hatha and Ashtanga.

Their mission to create an atmosphere that celebrates diversity, promote friendship and build a strong community is exemplified by the studio’s convivial and dedicated instructors.

Beginners will definitely find it comfortable to ease into their first practice. Class packages start from $120 for six sessions, with drop-ins at $25 per visit.

On what makes a good yoga studio:
“A good yoga studio is a supportive and inclusive community that gives you space to explore your practice. You should never feel judged about something like your technical abilities, your body or even your clothes. If you feel uncomfortable for any reason, try a different teacher, class or studio.” –Dwi Siswianti, Owner at Yoga Bar
