Long queues outside of Menya Takeichi in Tokyo.

Lauded as Tokyo’s top chicken ramen chain, Singaporeans can now try Menya Takeichi’s famous Chicken Paitan Broth Ramen.

After being featured on TV Asashi in 2012, Menya Takeichi grew in popularity with fans in Japan still queuing for hours to get their bowl of chicken ramen.

We anticipate that long queues will soon be forming at the newly opened outlet in Suntec City’s Eat At Seven. The dining concept houses seven of Japan’s top food brands. We recommend heading down soon to check it out!

Chicken and eggs

Potato salad (Nikumiso & Mentaiko)

Nikumiso and Mentaiko Potato Salad. One is topped with chicken and an onsen egg and the other is covered in mentaiko sauce and spring onions.

The humble chicken is the star of the menu at Menya Takeichi. Freshly sourced chicken is used in most of the dishes, not just for the ramen.

Our favourite chicken side dishes were the Nikumiso and Mentaiko Potato Salad ($7) and Chicken Ball Rice ($7). You can order these dishes on their own or top up $3.50 to receive a smaller portion as a side to compliment your ramen.

Special Rich Shoyu Ramen

Chicken Paitan Special Ramen packed full of collagen and topped with chicken meat.

The restaurant’s signature dish is the Chicken Paitan Special Ramen ($15.50), a thick and flavourful broth packed with collagen. Fresh chicken and chicken feet are stewed for hours  to get the rich broth that will put what you know about chicken soup to shame.

I personally found the broth a tad too salty but customers can choose to add clear soup made with bonito flakes to their ramen to customise the broth to their liking.

Instead of the usual chashu, each bowl of ramen is topped with sous-vide chicken breast meat and chicken thigh meat that has been dipped in secret sauce, simmered and boiled. I also enjoyed the sweet and bouncy chicken meat balls they make using a secret recipe and the lusciously runny ramen egg.

Collagen goodness

Overall, Menya Takeichi is a welcome addition to Singapore’s already very saturated ramen scene. The side dishes are great value for money and the Chicken Paitan Ramen is sure to be a hit among people looking to get their collagen fix for better skin.
