Chir Chir - Honey Butter Chicken

Sink your teeth into the delicious Honey Butter Chicken.

Sweet and salty with a caramel aftertaste, honey butter anything has attained a cult status in South Korea, much like the way salted egg yolk has found its way into our local dishes.

Delicious Honey Butter Chicken

Here at Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory, the Honey Butter Chicken ($28.90) is one of the latest additions to their menu.

Crispy battered chicken, potato wedges and pan-fried topokki (rice cakes) are glazed in lashings of the restaurant’s proprietary honey butter sauce, then generously showered with honey butter seasoning powder, dried cranberries and sliced almonds.

Despite being covered in honey butter glaze, the chicken remains crisp on the outside and tender within. I liked that it wasn’t too greasy.

Additionally, the pan-fried topokki added a pleasant chewy texture to the dish while the bits of dried cranberries lent a touch of sweetness.

If you simple love the taste of honey butter, don’t be too eager to dunk the chicken into the accompanying honeyed garlic mayo dip — its creamy richness may mask the butter glaze.

Chir Chir - Spicy Topokki

Spice up your meal with the Spicy Topokki.

Spice Up Your Meal

Apart from the Honey Butter Chicken, look out for other new items like the Spicy Topokki ($15.90), which is a tantalising dish that combines Korean rice cakes, sliced fishcake, cubed sweet potatoes, crispy Cajun fried squid and a deep-fried hardboiled egg in a fiery gochujang (red pepper paste) sauce.

For an additional $4, diners can add breaded chicken tenders to the dish.

Chir Chir - Spicy Seafood Soup

Yes, we slurped up all the broth.

For a comforting stew that will warm your belly, order the Spicy Seafood Soup ($26.90). The flavourful, clam-based broth is loaded with glass noodles, mussels, prawns, crayfish and a whole squid. I found the heat rather mild in this dish.

Apart from familiar Korean flavours, diners can also treat their tastebuds to items like the Rosemary Chicken ($29.90). Marinated for 12 hours, the chicken is tender and succulent with nice layer of roasted skin. It is accompanied by a salsa dip, a salt-baked egg, and a fluffy baked potato with sour cream.

With these new items on the menu, Chir Chir looks set to draw K-food lovers all over again — not that it’s signature fried chicken offerings needed any convincing.
