This Map Lets You Read Poems About MRT Stations

Shall I compare thee to Boon Lay?

The next time you’re caught waiting for your train, here’s something amusing to keep you occupied.

In celebration of Singapore Poetry Writing Month – yes, that’s happening now in April – Facebook group SingPoWriMo has crowd-sourced MRT-inspired poetry from locals to create “Poems on the MRT”.

Moderated by published poets like Alvin Pang, Pooja Nansi and Joshua Ip, the project was launched with a simple writing prompt:

Within minutes, aspiring bards began to “chope” their stations and poems started flooding in. Now, every single station has its own poem, from Marina South Pier to the yet-constructed Woodlands North.

Every-bard-y’s poems have been compiled into a cool interactive poetry map, which you can see here.

No more ranting about delayed trains for me; from now on, it’s “O MRT, thou art late.”
