Want to know what goes on at a speed dating event? Wonder no further. Here is the low-down on what goes on
GaiGai (走街) is the new business arm of Singapore’s first online dating application – Paktor. GaiGai serves a similar purpose to Paktor of connecting people, particularly singles.
Forget the exorbitant prices, mundane events and awkward moments. They provide modern matchmaking services which are focused on casual settings, great company, and low prices that make effective dating affordable to everyone.
I attended GaiGai’s dating event over the weekend and honestly? I would love to go for it again.
Here is a retelling of my experience:
I entered the place slightly bothered by the weather, but was pleasantly surprised by the surroundings of the restaurant. It was on a docked boat, generously spaced and immensely calming. It overlooks the gently-lapping river – I couldn’t have thought of a better place!
Armed with the tips (read here) provided by the experts behind Paktor, I straightened myself up and spoke to the man opposite me.
Men who attended
As it turned out, he was good conversation. He was not overly shy, he was a successful man and he was looking for genuine friends. It was everything I did not expect to find in a social dating event.
Most of the men who went are mostly night-shift workers. They either work irregular hours or are in such high-strung industries that they barely have time to themselves, let alone to date.
Women who attended
I caught some snippets of the conversation ongoing at the table next to mine – she was delightfully sharing an anecdote about work and her date was listening keenly. It looked like a connection!
Most of the women here look like they came form work. About half of them look slightly frazzled, but that could be attributed to a long day at the office. The other half looked dressed to the nines. Pro-tip? Always dress up!
In a nutshell
There was no awkwardness at all. Everyone seemed completely at ease and comfortable. The food came in excellent timing, the ambiance was tip-top and my dates were interesting, each in their own right.
What a way to fall in love indeed.
