8. Miss Saigon
Miss Saigon is a musical based on the novel Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. From the creators of Les Misérables, the story is set during the Vietnam War and tells the tragic tale of a young Vietnamese woman named Kim who falls in love with an American soldier named Chris.
When the war ends, Chris is forced to leave Vietnam, leaving Kim behind. Kim becomes pregnant with Chris’s child and is later forced to marry Thuy, a wealthy Vietnamese man. Years later, Chris returns to Vietnam searching for Kim.
The musical explores themes of love, loss, and sacrifice and features powerful songs such as “The Heat is On in Saigon”, “The Movie in My Mind”, “Last Night of the World”, and “The American Dream”.
