Why You Should Watch ‘The Umbrella Academy,’ The Biggest Streaming Show Right Now

The hit Netflix series gives us superheroes like we've never seen before

We're utterly and unabashedly obsessed with The Umbrella Academy. When Netflix announced that they are adapting the bestselling comic book series by Gerard Way (yup, he's the lead singer of My Chemical Romance) and Gabriel Bá, our interest was piqued. Finally a superhero show that isn't from Marvel or DC! And the cast includes big stars like Ellen Page and Mary J. Blige! But nothing prepared us for the big wave of love we'd feel towards the show. And we're definitely not alone. Umbrella Academy has been reported to be the most popular and raved-about streaming series right now, based on the opening week demand. If you haven't seen the 10-episode first season yet, first of all, what are you doing? Let us convince you why you need to be watching it right now.

5. The best performance of an old man stuck in a teenage body we’ve ever seen

Number five is dedicated to Number Five. Young actor Aidan Gallagher had what would be a very tough role for most: play a 58-year-old man who’s trapped in his thirteen-year-old body. And Number Five’s no ordinary old man (in consciousness), but a hardened man who’s seen and done some terrible things in the years when he travels into the future and lives a lonely post-apocalyptic life. Yet, he still has hope that he can return to stop the apocalypse, and is determined to do so even though it’ll put his life at risk. At just fifteen years’ old, Gallagher not only captures the complexities of the character, but does it so genuinely we never once doubted that Five is really a 58-year-old man inside. We wholeheartedly agree with critics and fellow fans – Aidan Gallagher is one of the breakout stars of Umbrella Academy and definitely one to watch in his long career.
