For a while, many thought you were focusing on acting, but you released the successful “Traces of Time in Love”. What goals do you hope to achieve with your music?

The goals for my music have never been far-fetched. I just hope that people can enjoy my music and it will relax and comfort them when they feel upset. I want my music to be like an essential accompanying track to life.

You appeared on “Mask Singer” and sang a Cantonese song. Why did you think of this?

My family’s from Guangdong, so I wanted to sing something in my second language that would confuse the guessing team and the audience. That old song has remained unchanged, so I wanted to modify it and shake things up a bit in the show.

How are acting and singing different to you?

With acting, I get to be more in tune with emotions that we don’t get to express every day. I feel more comfortable being open in expressing my feelings, be it with weeping or roaring with laughter. This gives me an immense sense of satisfaction, accomplishment and self-discovery.

For singing, the satisfaction comes when I perform live. I can immediately see the audience’s reactions to my music. When I’m recording, I feel like I’m singing out a story or even a portrait for everyone.
