2. Black Leopard, Red Wolf (by Marlon James)
Critics are already calling this new novel from Man Booker Prize-winner Marlon James an “African Game of Thrones.” The first book in the Dark Star Trilogy, it introduces us to a gritty and fantastical version of Africa, where shape-shifters, mermaids, witches, and more mythical creatures roam. They form an unlikely group of allies alongside Tracker, a skilled hunter tasked to find a young boy who’s been kidnapped, but not everyone in the team has the same agenda.
