Fans of Harry Potter, here’s some fantastic news: JK Rowling has crafted a collection of original writing to shed light (lumos!) on the new setting in the upcoming spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Entitled “History of Magic in North America”, the collection of four short works will be available on pottermore.com, with a new writing being posted every day for the next three days.

As you may have guessed, Fantastic Beasts will delve into the wizarding world in North America. The first installment, “Fourteenth Century – Seventeenth Century,” was introduced today.

It explores the world of Native American magic folk, and references the Navajo legend of shape-shifting “skin walkers”. In some versions of the old legend, skin walkers are said to obtain their powers by murdering a family member.

However, Rowling gives this tale a twist. In her writing, the shape-shifters are revealed to be Animagi, or wizards and witches who can transform into an animal at will.

The first writing was launched with a specially-produced video. Watch it here:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by Rowling. Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything, The Danish Girl) stars as magizoologist Newt Scamander, who embarks on a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures.

On the way, Newt encounters a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Fantastic Beasts will be released in Singapore on Nov 17. “History of North America” can be read on pottermore.com, with new content released daily over the next three days.
