2015 movies we can’t wait to watch

We’re already counting down to the expected blockbusters of the new year – will you be catching these too?

The last year hasn’t been much of a party for the movie world. A number of films let down their big fan bases, and only a small few struck us as actual entertainment.

This year, we’re looking at a change in the tide – and we can’t wait for these movies in particular! I’ve already got my planner ready.

The Imitation Game

Release: 22 January

If waiting is not your game, then good thing this movie is making its way to us very soon. The best thing to come out of England since Harry Potter, Benedict Cumberbatch (of “Sherlock”) now stars as visionary mathematician Alan Turing. Entrenched within the Second World War, Turing and his team must battle against time and enemy wits to decipher their military enigmas.

Joining Cumberbatch is Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean), giving us more eye candy. Expect lots of seat-clutching, if not for the dashing characters then for the heart-pumping suspense.

50 Shades of Grey

Release: 12 February

Attention all lovebirds, this is your year. Telling the steamy tale of a millionaire and his ‘commoner’ lover, 50 Shades of Grey is really just eroticism and fetishism masquerading as literature.

This is to be released on Valentine’s week for a reason. If your significant other is tugging your sleeves to go watch this film, don’t fight it, or you’ll be 50 shades of sorry. Would you really rather be spending Valentine’s Day watching Spongebob Squarepants in 3D?

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Release: 30 April

Marvel has been milking this series for all its worth, and we’re more than happy to lap it up. This sequel shows our favourite superheroes reassembling when a malevolent robot gains sentience, breaks free of its creator, and completely mows through civilization.

Following the big hoo-ha over how much to pay Ironman actor Robert Downey Jr to reappear, it’s no wonder this sequel is so hyped up. That and the ladies get to feast their eyes on Thor again.

Jurassic World

Release: 11 June

I’ve readied my 2015 calendar years in advance for this one. Unlike the original movie series, Jurassic World actually depicts a functioning dinosaur theme park. It features rides alongside the long-necked Brontosauruses, and monstrous aquatic reptiles jumping through mega hula hoops. It’s somewhere you actually don’t mind paying to go.

But, of course, something goes wrong and a heroic stud (played by Chris Pratt of Guardians of the Galaxy) jumps in to save the day. Star-Lord to Dino-Lord?

Minions

Release: 18 June

Ah, the ridiculously bubbly critters from the Despicable Me series are finally getting their own limelight! If you’re wondering what silly mischievous acts these balls of fun can get up to, this movie is the one to catch.

Maybe it’s the big let-down that was 2014’s Penguins of Madagascar but I’m hoping the minions won’t disappoint. If anything, it’s still sure to be a winner with the kids!

Inside Out

Release: 20 August

You may have seen this movie’s trailer already – the one prefaced (in cinemas) by a shameless Disney-Pixar movie montage of nostalgia. But, believe me, it doesn’t do Inside Out any justice.

This cute movie depicts the five basic human emotions personified as animated little creatures in the mind. If you think it’ll be too childish, think again – it’ll show the funny thought processes of adults as well.

Mark my words and mark these dates, because the year ahead looks to be an entertaining one!
