They prove last year wasn't a total disaster
Push away the thought of that negative headline you read for just a moment. Much of the news in 2018 was bad: horrible crimes, new viral outbreaks, natural disasters, the passing of legends... what about the good stuff that happened? With the benefit of hindsight, we can look back and recognise all the awesome things that happened last year. Here are some inspiring and positive stories from 2018 that deserve to be remembered as we look forward to more light and kindness this year. They're also uplifting to read whenever you're feeling down.
6. School in Ghana received computers from Microsoft, thanks to teacher’s efforts
The students at the Betenase Municipal Assembly Junior High in Ghana had to learn Information and Communications Technology (ICT), but there was one big problem: they had no working computers. So their teacher Richard Appiah Akoto got creative and drew a Microsoft Word window in intricate, amazing detail on the blackboard to help his students try to imagine how to use a computer. He posted the photos on Facebook and the post quickly went viral, prompting Microsoft and several other benefactors to send computers to the school. What a big step towards hopefully providing more schools across Africa with the resources they need!
