What it’s about: When a former NSA agent steals a top-secret time machine, US Homeland Security assembles an unlikely team of three – a history professor, a Delta Force soldier, and an engineer – to follow wherever the guy goes in the other remaining time machine, and figure out his plot to change American history. Their one mission is to make sure no one changes a thing in the past, and history remains the same. But right off the bat, they realise that that’s not only difficult to avoid in time travel, but also not always the right call to make, especially if they have a chance to save innocent people.

Why you should watch: Time travel stories are a dime a dozen, but Timeless offers a very refreshing take on the genre. Unlike many time travel sci-fi dramas that centre on fantastical world-building, Timeless revisits the significant moments of American history, both the famous and the lesser-known events and figures. History buffs, this is your show to geek off. What’s even more refreshing is that Timeless doesn’t shy away from the dark and thorny sides of American history, but digs deep into the gender and racial politics of the past, as well as the tricky obstacles of traveling back in time as a woman and a black person in the US.

Seasons One and Two are currently available on Netflix. In June, NBC announced that the show would be cancelled, until the passionate pressure of the fans made the network finally decide to grant us a two-hour movie finale. It would wrap up the series from the shocking and huge cliff-hanger at the end of Season Two.
