8. Be hypnotised at a GIF festival

Held from October 7 to 11, the inaugural Noise x GIF Fest is Singapore’s largest GIF event yet. For the uninitiated, GIF stands for graphic interchange format, an engaging medium which loops visual data over and over again. Themed “Spellbound” this year, the event will feature an immersive exhibition of over 50 specially commissioned original GIFs, which will be showcased through projections, large screens, and secret rooms, a concerted effort to create a truly spellbounding experience, hence the theme.

Festival-goers can look forward to a plethora of fringe events including workshops, live performances, creative dialogue sessions and many more. Budding artists can attend a workshop by Aik Beng Chia, one of Singapore’s most prominent street photographer, where he will share about how he transforms his photos into dynamic cinemagraphs (animated photographs in a nutshell). Performance-wise, look forward to a live set between Kiat from Syndicate and Deborah Emmanual, Singapore’s foremost spoken word poet. There’ll also be performances by electronic duo .GIF, a GIF making workshop for kids interactive art installations, and inspiring talks by industry pioneers for those interested in the emerging art form and medium.
