Trust the Japanese to create a drink that likens to the elixir of life. Takeway concept Amamoto cafe introduces Amazake, an alcohol-, dairy-, gluten- and sugar-free beverage made from fermented rice. So is it like drinking the pitera essence of SKII? Perhaps. Also a 1500-year-old drinking culture in Japan, the ‘sweet wine’ serves as a gateway to a healthier gut, calmer nerves and beautiful skin. Alongside salad and parfait offerings, the cafe offers both cold and hot selections such as Amazake with roasted soy milk ($5) and Soy Amazake with ginger ($3.80) respectively. If you’re more gung-ho, we suggest getting the hot pure amazake ($4.20) to reap the full benefits of this delightful elixir!
