11. Sake Festival

Sake Festival Singapore will be back on 22 June 2019 with a record number of over 50 presenting breweries, brands, and other F&B companies. Besides showcasing the largest portfolio of sake & Japanese liquor for tasting (in Southeast Asia), an exciting programme that includes a Wanko Soba Eating Challenge, has been planned.

For the first time this year, all purchases at SFS2019 will be transacted through the official event wristbands. Exchange your tickets for wristbands, which you can use to purchase sake bottles and food, after loading credits onto the wristbands (tasting of sake is complimentary as in previous years). A gift-credit of S$5 will be provided on the first initial credit-load. Initial credit-load and subsequent top-ups can be done at conveniently placed stations within the event hall.

Beauty brand, KOSÉ, is among 5 new participating companies. Presenting their new skincare line made with kojic acid, KOSÉ looks forward to reaching out to consumers who know of the healthful benefits of koji fermented products; as in the case of sake. In addition, four well-known Japanese restaurants will also be participating – YATAGARASU, NIRAI-KANAI, KAJIKEN and KAMOSHITA. They have been invited to join in this year after the organiser heeded requests from visitors for more food items to be made available at the festival. NIRAI-KANAI will be showcasing their famous Okinawan cuisine through an Okinawa Soba. KAJIKEN will be selling popular festival bites such as Mazesoba, Karaage and Edamame. Of special note is YATAGARASU’s Wanko Soba Challenge. Priced at just $1 to join, selected participants (through ballot) can challenge themselves to eating as many bowls of the specialty soba from Iwate prefecture as they can, within a time limit set.

Renowned Dassai brand has discontinued the popular Dassai 50 label and will be showcasing its replacement, Dassai 45, at SFS2019 among their other portfolio. Tatenokawa which recently collaborated with indie-pop French band Phoenix, will be presenting their Phoenix Junmaidaiginjo and Phoenix Sparkling from the collaboration. Be sure to also check out new-to-market bottlings from Gasanryu – the Gokka & Reika. Those with a preference for a sake with a fuller palate and fruity notes can try the Musubiyui Mashigura Namagenshu. And for a dry sparkling style with complexity, the Chiyomusubi Sorah is a great choice to consider.
