13. View an exhibition of Chen Wen Hsi’s artworks at his original residence

For the very first time, local pioneer master Chen Wen Hsi will have his artworks exhibited at his original residence at 5 Kingsmead Road; in a showcase organised by artcommune gallery. 5 Kingsmead Road is the only private residence that has been marked as a historic site under two categories by the National Heritage Board, specifically culture and community, and art. From 12 April to 3 May 2019, this private residence will be open to the public for the first time to showcase two historic mural works created by Chen Wen Hsi in the period of 1959 – 1964.

On display are over 20 of Chen Wen Hsi’s paintings across different periods; artefacts such as the publishing printing plates used for Chen’s catalogues in the 1960s; a 3D model of the Old House, fabricated and contributed by DP Architects; as well as artist Ben Loong’s site-specific works created in response to Chen Wen Hsi’s murals and paintings.

There will also be a ticketed talk titled Singapore Artist Series: Chen Wen Hsi happening this Saturday, 20 April, 2019, 11am – 12.30pm.
