1. Celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of our local Chinese culture
Held over three weeks at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) from 18 May to 10 June, the SCCC Cultural Extravaganza (CE 2018) [华彩2018] is set to present a dynamic line-up of programmes. Kicking off the three-week long fiesta will be a brand new theatre performance that pays tribute to iconic comedians of Singapore’s past and present. Brainchild of popular local theatre group Toy Factory, Masters of Comedy (天才谐星) promises to entertain the audience with candid characters who trace the comedy stars over the years, from comic duo Wang Sha Ye Feng to Jack Neo, Mark Lee and Hui Ge. Combining various elements of comedic dialogue, crosstalk, song and dance, be set to take a trip into the dramatic evolution of local culture in Singapore, and brace yourself to non-stop laughters. The Sing.Lang Concert [“Sing.浪”演唱会] returns with a new entourage of local talents, including Benjamin Kheng from local band The Sam Willows, and evergreen singer Maggie Teng, one of our earliest musical talents to break into the regional Mandopop scene. It also puts the spotlight on our local talents who have been making waves in the music industry, with the likes of Sing! China finalists Joanna Dong and Olinda Cho. Other activities include Chinese poetry reading with live music on the harmonica and pipa, an exhibition on Singapore’s letterpress and printing history, a workshop on Chinese opera with Nick Shen, to a quest at the SCCC with its first ever upsized escape experience that will definitely satisfy the thrill seekers.
