Textures 2019: 7 Highlights You Should Attend At The Local Literary Festival

Celebrate Sing Lit with some of our best in the scene

Did you know that March is designated as National Reading Month in the United States? Though it's not a thing in Singapore, the folks behind Textures may be planning to make it so. The literary festival launched to much success in March 2018, and is making its return this year from 7 to 10 March at The Arts House. Co-commissioned by The Arts House and the #BuySinglit movement, and supported by the National Arts Council, Textures is all about celebrating Singapore literature. This year, the festival explores a range of emotions that words express through the theme of "Love and Loss (and some things in between)."

The programme is packed with so many exciting performances, exhibitions, panel discussions and creative workshops, some taking place at the same time - how do we choose which ones to attend? To help you decide, we've picked out seven events we're most excited for. Call up your friends for a lit-terrific weekend, and don't forget to support our authors and discover new reads at the #BuySingLit Book Bazaar, happening at the Arts House Gallery from 8 to 10 March.

7. Comics Workshops (for adults and for kids)

Illustration is one of the best friends of words, so it’s natural that the art has a big part in Textures. In addition to the Illustratin SingLit Bootcamp, the festival is also holding two workshops dedicated to comics. Dip into the fun world of making comics in Creating Collaborative Comics, where participants work with one another in team relay style to create a four-page comic together. The little ones will also have a blast learning the basics and drawing their own comics at the Comics Workshop for Kids led by James Tan.

Creating Collaborative Comics will be held at the Living Room on 10 March, from 3:30pm to 6pm. Comics Workshop for Kids will be held at the Council Room on 10 March, from 10:30am to 12pm. Get your tickets ($10) here.
